We left our country of birth in 1999, devastated by its failure, and the loss of family, friends - and our loyal little lapdog, Trishka.

Part Schipperke, part Pomeranian, we bought the palm-sized night-black puppy shortly after our marriage to symbolise the sunshine of our union.

As we migrated over the rolling Indian Ocean, gracious acceptance by our country of adoption, and a burning desire to enrich our lives with each family member's choice of canine companion, was the only consolation for our loss.

Son pleaded for a Pyrenean, daddy named a Newfoundland and mommy said St Bernard!

After almost a decade in our new home, Isus sadly passed away on July 14, 2008. Her love, loyalty and bravery were unique and remain irreplaceable. We miss her. However, love is not a finite substance diluted by division. This philosophy that allows for the dynamic and irrepressible nature of caring paved the way for the newest addition to our family - and finally mommy could exercise her initial choice of canine cohort!
